Elsie
Upholstery is a little like childbirth. Truly. (Got your attention, huh?) You never really know what you're going to get until you push through and get there!
Initially, we thought Elsie would be a tight back Bergere-ish style arm chair. She looked like a tight back, she felt like a tight back, I was sure she was a tight back. I was completely ready to welcome another Bergerey arm chair as I enjoy working with them; however Elsie is Elsie … full of surprises. After a look deep inside I discovered four (4) previous layers of upholstery, horse hair, bugs, straw, and cotton padding going back about 100 years. Elsie is not a tight back chair. She is a channel back. Elsie was insistent about being who she was built to be.
Elsie arrived dressed in Greenhouse velvet in the color “Seal” on her inside seating surfaces, inside arms, and channels. Elsie’s Seal is light and silvery when smoothed down, but rub that Seal the wrong way, and Elsie becomes instantly dark and stormy. Seal is a true taupe that plays equally well with cool and warm colors. On her outside surfaces Elsie is wearing Sunbrella “Gemma” pattern in the color Linen by Thibaut. This fabric resists fading, is bleach cleanable, and oh so durable!
Welcome to the world, Elsie!
