𝐇𝐞-𝐫-𝐞’𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐥! 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲!

We’ve all seen furniture with such polished sophistication that it's intimidating. You know the type: the furniture you're not really supposed to sit on, much less lounge on. Well, 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗹 is one of those pieces that 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝘀 to be sat upon. 𝐒𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. 𝐖𝐢𝐧-𝐰𝐢𝐧!

𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐥 is a relatively new, apartment sized La–Z-Boy sofa. While Hazel’s size, shape, and “sit” were perfect for the space, the original color and overall vibe just wasn’t right for the homeowner. From a decorative perspective, Hazel was a miss. Moving to a new home brought new opportunities, so Hazel’s owner decided the time was right to make a change. Custom reupholstery gave the homeowner exactly the sofa she wanted, and helped Hazel grow into herself.

Hazel’s owner chose an RM Coco fabric, Bespoke Stripe, in the color “Hazelnut”. (Hence her name!) Bespoke Stripe is a woven jacquard fabric, with a high durability rating, that comes in a broad range of colorways. In the chosen color Hazel has a sturdy, soft vibe retaining those vertical stripes that the homeowner loved. Hazel’s new duds evoke a French country, cottage core, or farmhouse coziness. The fabric’s stripes, open weave texture, and woven jacquard slubs create interest, and the color is neutral enough to work with many decorative styles.

Most of us understand that a lining, a camisole, or a slip helps our clothes drape and wear better. Sometimes it's a real necessity. Hazel is no different. Because Hazel’s fabric has an open weave, I decided Hazel needed a slip. I chose to line Hazel’s fabric in muslin throughout this project. (Like Mom said, invest in your foundation garments! They can make or break an outfit!)

The biggest challenge in upholstering Hazel was simply lifting her! For her size, Hazel is one of the HEAVIEST pieces I’ve ever worked on. Ever. Certainly all the lifting and schlepping will help keep me young, so that’s a plus! Thanks, 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗹!
