Grandma’s Facelift!

This chair has been through a time warp. It entered the workshop screaming 1990!!! And it left ready for 2025!

This is a π’π‘πžπ«π«π’π₯π₯ chair-and-a-half. π’π‘πžπ«π«π’π₯π₯ is a great brand. Yes, a chair-and-a-half is a thing. It’s like a cross between a loveseat, a club chair, and an overstuffed recliner. The chair-and-a-half is perfect for sharing space between and adult and a child, adult and two children, two teens, or one very lounged teenager. Visualize throwing your legs over one well padded arm while your head is cradled on the other, the quintessential pose of TV viewing for teens. In fact, the client had such warm memories about sharing a chair and a book with her grandma as a child, that this chair is simply called π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš. π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš has been updated and is ready for some story time or movie or two!

π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš is new down to her bones. We replaced the dated 1990s green moire fabric with Greenhouse Fabric S3757 in the color Ripple. This fabric has a high durability rating, and a heavy weave. The client chose to swap out the small attached back pillows for one larger back cushion. The family dog’s favorite perch happens to be the back of this chair. With that in mind, we used a supersoft back foam instead of fiberfill to allow for more supportive sitting for the family pet and humans alike. Truthfully, pets that sit on back pillows often crush them down, so the swap will preserve the integrity and comfort of π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš for longer.

Finally, we ditched the skirt. There are times when a skirt absolutely elevates a piece. Skirts are traditional, and elegant. They can be luxurious and sophisticated, but in the client’s transitional great room the skirt looked fussy and dated. Since space under the chair wasn’t needed for storage (and yes, people store things like table leaves under their furniture skirts) the client kissed that skirt goodbye. In fact, the legs on this piece were still wrapped in plastic from the factory 30 years ago. It was time to let π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš'𝐬 legs see the light of day. And what lovely legs she has!

Reupholstery is a terrific opportunity for a facelift. π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš is looking fine! Welcome back, π†π«πšπ§ππ¦πš!
